Sofiane and Selma Ouissi believe in the transformative power of art. This brother and sister team from Tunisia have won fame for their socially and politically engaged projects in the current Arab dance scene.
«Laaroussa» is a tribute to the potters of Sejane, a small town in the impoverished North of Tunisia, where for centuries women have produced elaborate clay figures. Sofiane and Selma Ouissi have created a minimalist choreographic composition inspired by the repetitive gestures of those workers which they endorse with documentary material. A fascinating way of portraying a language of movement that derives from a social and working environment. (esc)
