Mahabharata

The Dutch performer and theologian Marjolijn van Heemstra and the Indian actor Satchit Puranik both saw Peter Brook’s film adaptation of the Hindu epic «Mahabharata» as children. When they met as adults, they discovered that they each had the same favourite scenes. They now discuss their past and present views of this universal story. With disarming honesty and without fear of ridicule or confrontation they try to re-enact the intercultural utopia the film as they saw it then and as they see it now. A private and very touching performance, or, as Marjolijn Heemstra puts it, «a Bollywood diary of faith, love, hope and reality in today’s world». (esc)
