Cabaret brise-jour et autres manivelles

after Kurt Weill

Cabaret brise-jour et autres manivelles

Berlin cabaret, Parisian nostalgia, New york Broadway — this Canadian artist collective follows in the footsteps of Kurt Weill, the German-Jewish composer known for his fruitful collaborations with Bertolt Brecht such as «The Threepenny Opera». In a stage installation that looks like a bizarre mix of secondhand store, repair shop and a cabinet of curiosities, the orchestra interprets Weill’s songs as unique and truly pleasurable tableaux vivants. With sounds, gestures, movements and bizarre props they create a surreal cosmos in which Weill’s music comes to life again. (ron)
